Tafsir al-Jalalayn (تفسير الجلالين, "Tafsir of the Two Jalals") is recognized worldwide as one of the most accessible, precise, and authoritative classical commentaries of the Quran.
The Authors
It was composed by two renowned Egyptian Islamic scholars:
- Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli (d. 1459 / 864 AH), who authored commentary from Surah Al-Kahf to Surah An-Nas.
- Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (d. 1505 / 911 AH), his brilliant student who completed the work from Surah Al-Baqarah to Surah Al-Isra after Al-Mahalli's passing.
Why QuranIndex Uses It as Primary
Unlike extensive historical commentaries, Tafsir al-Jalalayn focuses directly on literal lexical meanings, sentence structure, and immediate contextual clarifications (frequently utilizing explanatory phrases like "that is" / أي).
By placing Tafsir al-Jalalayn at the center of discovery, QuranIndex allows users to understand the precise linguistic definition of Quranic concepts before diving into the verse itself.
